  • Local Unit & Position Description

    Brief Team and Position Summary:

    The position is for a microbiologist within the Corrosion Management group. Initially, projects involving biocide testing will be the focus of work for the microbiologist. The anticipated types of projects involving biocide testing include selection of an effective biocide, concentration and exposure time for a given environment; optimization of incumbent biocides by co-application with other production chemicals (e.g., inhibitors or surfactants), and identifying effective batch treatment schemes for treating dead legs or pipelines with deposits, or testing using flow loops. Biocide testing will focus on the effectiveness of killing microorganisms in a biofilm and reduction of localized corrosion on test coupons. Surface profilometry and potentially SEM may also be performed on the coupons.

     

    The microbiologist position would also support corrosion failure analysis projects. Other types of future projects that can be developed over 1-2 years are discussed later under Opportunities.

    Other types of work we currently perform that can be supported and enhanced by the microbiologist include:

    • Pipeline system corrosion assessments and recommendations
    • Procedure Development (MIC mitigation and testing methods)
    • Integration of molecular microbiological data with MIC treat and risk assessments, and MARV

    Tasks May Include: (Essential roles, responsibilities and activities a candidate may expect)

    • Biocide experiment design and set-up
    • Microbiologically influenced corrosion related data review and interpretation
    • Report preparation and review
    • Participate in client meetings

    Position Qualifications

    Requirements:  

    • Education –PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or microbiology (or related field)
    • Years of related experience – None required, internship with oil& gas operator or consulting experience preferred
    • Technical competencies – Proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Behavioral competencies – Strong attention to detail but still able to understand the big picture, inquisitive
    • Travel requirement (% of the year) – Less than 20% of the year; potentially some office/business meetings and presentations at conferences or workshops; opportunities for more travel if desired
    • Physical abilities necessary to perform regular functions of the job (standing, lifting, climbing, other) –lifting up to 30 pounds
    • Other – Must have driver’s license
