Local Unit & Position Description

DNV GL – Energy is seeking a Software Sales Engineer – Renewables Energy. Under the direction of the WindFarmer Business Manager, the Software Sales Engineer will take a proactive attitude to managing the full sales cycle by closing simultaneous multiple sales per month. This position is based out of our Montreal office.

Tasks May Include


  • To meet assigned regional sales revenue targets for software licenses, support and maintenance agreements and training courses
  • Proactively identify new opportunities, primarily with project developers (onshore and offshore) and academic institutes through maintenance of an effective network within the renewable energy developers market and related business
  • Develop themselves as the main point of contact for wind energy resource assessment software in their region
  • Robust qualification of leads to ensure a good fit between software and the clients’ technical and business requirements
  • Manage the quotation process including liason with our Software Support Administration team
  • Call upon senior business development staff within Energy as appropriate to develop and close opportunities
  • Present WindFarmer: Analyst, resource Panorama and SolarFarmer to technical and management audiences. Requires the ability to relate technical information in a business context
  • Assist with development of sales, marketing and other PR materials including social media activity including blogs/articles
  • Diligent use of our MS Dynamics and DNV GL in-house CRM systems to track and provide reportable information on sales, leads and opportunities
  • Converting existing WindFarmer 5.x clients and leads generated through our consultancy business
  • Pro-actively seek cross-selling opportunities from and for our consultancy business staff
  • Deliver WindFarmer: Analyst commercial training as and when required

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Software Engineer preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in the renewable industry, an understanding of key industry drivers and preferably with a network of relevant contacts
  • Demonstrable sales and business development experience
  • Able to build good relationships with end users, stakeholders and all members of the sales team
  • Able to communicate different messages to different audiences
  • Able to receive critical feedback from users and the team and feed this back into the product vision as appropriate
  • Able to understand how the business (domain) works and what is and isn’t valuable to users
  • Natural willingness to learn and improve
  • Willingness and ability to travel, up to 50% of the time
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
