  • Local Unit & Position Description

    The Energy division of global engineering consultancy DNV GL works at the cutting edge of renewable energy. Our expertise helps clients around the world to get the most out of wind farms, solar power plants and new technologies including wave and tidal power, and energy storage. The Software Tools & products (STP) department is our in-house software team designing, creating and managing applications relied upon by engineers across the renewable energy industry on desktop, web and mobile platforms. We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable software test engineer to help enhance testing across our suite of products, with a focus on our wind farm and solar farm planning applications, WindFarmer and SolarFarmer.

     

    WindFarmer is tool that has been in use throughout the industry for over 20 years for planning and assessing the energy production of wind farms, thanks to its trusted and extensively-validated models. SolarFarmer is a brand-new product that is making its way out to the market, harnessing DNV GL’s industry-leading knowledge along with modern software developments with the aim to deliver a tool to plan and assess the energy production of solar power plants. Both share common infrastructure and are desktop applications incorporating recent developments including a fresh new UI based on UX research techniques, performant charting components for large time series handling and display, and an API.

     

     

    As Software Tester you will have the following responsibilities:

    • Work within a multi-disciplinary team of software developers, testers and engineers with modern software processes and tools
    • Creating, maintaining and documenting the test plan
    • New feature and bug fix testing
    • Reporting of product defects and test effectiveness to management
    • Testing input into the specification and scheduling of software releases
    • Regression testing of new software releases
    • Contributing to test automation development
    • Investigation and implementation of efficient testing methodologies
    • Investigating and characterising issues gathered by the support and development team
    • Assessing, logging and tracking items in the issue tracking system

     

    Position Qualifications

    • University degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or Engineering will be considered as an asset
    • 3+ years software testing experience
    • Basic knowledge of object-oriented programming languages: C# or Python a plus
    • Knowledge of the full application development process
    • Experience of a range of testing approaches and able to assess their relative strengths and weaknesses
    • Follows relevant software testing processes and methodology with a strong knowledge of testing principles
    • Ability to apply knowledge and skills to different software products


    Desirable technical qualifications:

    • Worked as part of an agile development team
    • Experience with automated testing in a Continuous Integration environment
    • Experience with application lifecycle management applications like Team Foundation Server
    • Testing qualification e.g. ISEB or ISTQB
    • IT troubleshooting skills
