  • Local Unit & Position Description

    DNV GL – Energy’s Power System Planning (PSP) Group is seeking a Senior Engineer – Power System Planning. The focus of this group is to provide creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission and distribution systems including ISOs/RTOs, power utilities, developers, asset owners and operators as well as investors. This position is based out of our Oakland, CA office.

     

    Tasks May Include

     

    • Lead the generation, interconnection and distribution consulting practice in CAISO region by participating in various working groups & conferences; respond to request for proposals 
    • Provide innovative solutions combined with distributed energy resources (DERs), storage technologies, electric vehicles and microgrid applications
    • Perform generation interconnection and renewable integration studies on large-scale networks for various RTO/ISO regions based on the regional reliability standards
    • Perform power system studies including power flow, short circuit, protection coordination, Arc flash, harmonics, and grounding etc.
    • Develop detailed electrical system models and one-line diagrams utilizing client specific software such as ETAP, CYME, Synergi, PSS®E, PSLF, PowerWorld or similar
    • Write clear and concise reports; and present study results to clients
    • Assist team in writing proposals and business development activities
    • Develop and modify automation scripts in python, VB/ excel macro or similar
    • Travel to customer’s site to collect data, take measurements, label equipment, or discuss report conclusions and recommendations, as required

    Position Qualifications

    Requirements

     

    • Bachelor degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or smiliar with emphasis on Electric Power Systems
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in transmission and distribution system analyses with specific focus in generation interconnection studies and transmission/distribution reliability studies
    • Minimum 1 year of experience in analyzing the impacts of DERs on distribution systems
    • Experience in modeling and analysis of renewable generation technologies including but not limited to utility-scale wind, solar, batter storage projects
    • Strong background in electric power systems, knowledge of RTO/ISO markets, Power System planning practices and Regulatory Compliance Requirements
    • Willingness and ability to travel, up to 10% of the time
    • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

    Preferred Skills (Not Required)

     

    • Familiarity with new technologies such as Microgrids, Electric Vehicles etc
    • Participation in IEEE working groups related to transmission and distribution system aspects
    • Hands-on experience in using commercial software including but not limited to PSS/E, PSLF, ETAP, CYME, ASPEN, Power World etc.
