  • Local Unit & Position Description

    The Operation Excellence (OPE) team support our customers with expertise related to technical aspects of the smart grid. This includes application related to Smart Metering, Power System Operations, Such as SCAD/EMS,DMS, substation automation and data communications protocols. Operation Excellence team also operates the Power System Generation plants testing, witnessing, optimization, Technical Minimum verification where we provide support to the System Operators and generators.

    We are currently looking for a new colleague in our OPE team.

    The role will involve working with the OPE team, in the area of Intelligent Networks Communication, to provide technical consulting services (advisory, writing specifications) in the area protocol consultancy services and testing (PRIME, DLMS, IEC-61850, IEC 60870-5-104, ICCP, etc.) and supporting/performing test in the Smart Grid Laboratory. This role is intended to have a specific focus in the work we perform in OPE Intelligent Networks Communication. Knowledge in industrial protocols, substation automation, communication networks, cybersecurity in OT will be appreciated.

    The candidate must have basics on programing tools that are developed in the unit for testing purposes (scripts, python, etc.) and will be add value knowledge in C-sharp.

    The consultant will be expected to support also Business development effort of the unit.

    You will be providing our customers in the energy sector with the following types of services:

    • Advisory services in protocol and communications.
    • Testing services in laboratory or in customer premises
    • Requirement Specifications
    • Testing setup development.
    • Project Management 
    • Commercial follow-up (attendance to main industry conferences, proposal management)
    • Technology scouting

    The individual will be part of the Operational Excellence department in Madrid, Spain. The individual will work closely with other DNV GL engineers in their local offices

    Key internal and external contacts would be as follows:

    • Line Manager in Madrid (e.g. for reporting and issue escalation)
    • Other OPE consultants in Spain, or any other country (e.g. for knowledge sharing)
    • Various Clients

    Position Qualifications

    On appointment the candidate must have:

    • Engineering degree specialized in electrical and power generation, IT networks or Telecommunication. 
    • Preferable 2 years of experience with knowledge in industrial protocols, automation and knowledge in Transmission and Distribution.
    • Very good IT skills in the most popular computer programs, and capabilities of development in high level languages (i.e. python).
    • Excellent English and Spanish language skills (both in writing and speaking)
    • Ability to work independently, be a self –starter, energetic
    • Structured and service –minded approach, always focusing on delivering high quality results
    • Willingness to travel
    • A positive attitude and a good sense of humour
    • Ability to work under pressure and manage several on –going projects

The candidate must be willing to work with complex tasks under such deadline pressure, and be comfortable in managing workflow to deliver work on time (working with line manager and other team members to cross allocate work to avoid overloading)
