  • Local Unit & Position Description

    Technical Centre China is strengthening the team and is seeking approval engineers within ship structural engineering. You will be working in the business area Maritime within Region Greater China, as part of the Approval section at Technical Centre China in Shanghai. The section delivers approval services and support to our clients and counts 28 highly skilled employees.

    The responsibility of the section covers plan approval of hull structure and ship equipment related to ship new building projects
    - according to applicable DNVGL rules and guidelines
    - according to applicable international standards and Flag State regulatory requirements.

    Position description
    The position offers great opportunity to work with colleagues across the disciplines and geographies of DNV GL to develop and deliver projects. You can develop personal and technical skills and solutions for our clients in various areas depending on qualifications and interests.

    As Hull approval engineer you will report to the Group leader Hull structures, within the approval section.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Carry out plan approval for hull structures for a wide range of vessel types such as Bulk carrier, Container vessel, Chemical & Oil tanker, Gas carrier, Ro-Ro, etc.
    • FE analysis of hull structures
    • Handle the technical questions from internal and external clients
    • Provide support to sales, marketing and business development

    Position Qualifications

    • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture
    • Work experience in design house, shipyard or classification society would be an advantage
    • Experience with the DNV GL +1A Rules for ships and IACS Common Structural Rules
    • Knowledge within structural analysis and use of relevant industry FE tools such as Genie, Patran etc.
    • Service oriented and proactive attitude
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
    • Capable of working independently and reliably
    • Understanding of role of class, rules and class systematics
    • Strong command of the English language. Chinese language proficiency is an advantage
