    DNV GL - Energy is seeking an entry-level researcher to join our Energy Efficiency team and support an array of projects in the clean energy and energy efficiency industries. Our clients include regulatory commissions as well as energy utilities and other entities who implement or oversee customer programs. These programs support energy efficiency and clean energy by delivering education, technical assistance, and financial incentives to energy users in the residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors. At DNV GL, you’ll work closely with your colleagues to evaluate these programs and conduct related planning, market research, and consulting support to our clients.

     

    This position may be based in our Oakland, CA or Portland, OR offices, and offers a starting salary range of $55,000 - $60,000 per year depending upon experience, in addition to an exceptional benefits package.

     

    Tasks May Include:

     

    • Participate in research/evaluation study design and implementation
    • Conduct web-based research and data mining activities
    • Contribute to preparation of data collection instruments such as interview guides and phone/web surveys
    • Conduct structured qualitative and quantitative telephone interviews with industry experts and market actors
    • Perform periodic field research in residential, commercial and retail settings
    • Oversee subcontractors responsible for survey data collection
    • Gathering and consolidating data from varied sources
    • Perform data analyses in Microsoft Excel (and, if able, in R and/or SAS)
    • Create charts, graphs, and summaries of data and statistical analyses using data visualization and presentation tools
    • Coordinate project related activities pertaining to data collection, analysis and reporting
    • Compile and summarize research results in data tables and written summaries
    • Contribute to on-time, on-budget delivery of high-quality analyses, written reports, and presentations
    • Juggle responsibilities across multiple projects effectively and with composure and good cheer
    • Communicate proactively and effectively with staff all levels to find information, learn new skills, troubleshoot problems, and address complex issues
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and clients
    • Contribute meaningfully to team efforts to achieve group and company goals while providing insight, enthusiasm, and support
    • Act as a role model for other staff through your leadership, mentorship, and sharing of knowledge and skills
    • Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times, including in written and verbal communications
    • Represent DNV GL at industry conferences and events, including after-hours activities

    Position Qualifications

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • Positive, team-oriented attitude and professional demeanor
    • An entrepreneurial spirit and aptitude for “connecting the dots” among different topics and/or sources of information
    • An organized, detail-oriented approach and the ability to work independently
    • Strong analytical/problem solving skills
    • Ability to take direction from multiple people and perform varied tasks
    • Strong telephone etiquette
    • Ability to prioritize work
    • Prior experience using Microsoft Word and Excel required
    • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
    • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time as required; this travel will be intermittent, primarily in the Western US region, and is project-driven; possible travel scenarios may include week-long trips to field sites, typically not exceeding two non-consecutive weeks per month.
    • Valid driver’s license required

    Preferred Skills:

    • Prior experience or interest in energy efficiency and/or clean energy
    • Experience with Tableau and/or Power BI
