    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:


    DNV GL provides a wide range of engineering, reliability and asset management services to the oil, gas and water industries. The Engineer / Consultant will report to the Team Leader and will support the delivery of projects under the guidance of the Team Leader or nominated technical lead. The role includes extensive team interaction to discuss technical issues and solutions, and requires the Engineer / Consultant to undertake analysis of complex data sets, with clear communication of results and conclusions.


    As part of the team, you will be involved in providing analytic and engineering consultancy services to utility companies across the UK. Your role will be to analyse and interpret performance data on assets (e.g. pipes, meters, regulators) to provide a decision support process and strategy for our clients. This will involve writing macros and developing decision support tools which identify and prioritise asset requirements, including replacement. Scenario development, modelling and interpretation of results against specified criteria / targets will form part of the expectation for the role. These models are predominantly developed using ‘VBA’ and ‘R’.


    The role may also include management of laboratory testing work on gas meters and regulators, and the interpretation of test results and production of reports for clients. As such the ability to interpret test results and produce clear, concise reports is paramount. An understanding of UK utilities, and gas distribution, in particular, is desirable.


    Knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of programmes is required. A good working knowledge of programming using VBA is essential, with the use of ‘R’ desirable.


    The appointed candidate must be able to work a part of a wider team; supervise /mentor other team members if required; be able to work to tight deadlines and manage/prioritise their own workload.


    DNV GL are looking to appoint a Graduate with an Engineering or Mathematics background to fulfil the above role.

     

    Key Accountabilities:

     

    • Develop experience and expertise across operational activities within the gas and water industries, establishing a working knowledge of pipelines, metering and other utility assets.
    • Work on projects to deliver technical solutions to utility clients within the timeframe, costs and quality standards agreed.
    • Communication (written and oral) of analysis and conclusions clearly and accurately, to both internal and external clients, e.g. as emails, presentations, test reports or technical reports.
    • Peer review / input into technical reports and models to support other team members in the delivery of projects.
    • Work within the guidelines of agreed Health and Safety requirements of DNV GL and those of our clients.
    • To carry out other reasonable duties/tasks as required, to deliver and meet the objectives of the Advisory unit.

    Key Outputs:

     

    • Undertake data analysis and interpretation work to support senior staff on projects within the team and across the practice.
    • Provide input into innovation opportunities and team strategy development.
    • Write macros in VBA (Excel and Access) to support analysis work across the team.
    • Liaise with laboratory staff to understand/advise on test regimes and collect data
    • Undertake field visits as appropriate to support project work.
    • Assist senior staff in writing proposals by providing technical information and timescales.
    • Produce models (i.e. in Excel) including client interfaces.
    • Write reports to document work, communicate analyses, and draw conclusions.

       

    Position Qualifications

    • Graduate in an Engineering or Mathematics discipline
    • Able to robustly analyse and present complex solutions and ideas
    • Ability to code in VBA
    • Flexibility to travel within the UK for meetings and field visits
