    DNV GL – Energy Advisory Renewables group is seeking a Solar Engineer with project management abilities to support the strong growth of the company in Mexico and Central America. The primary function of this position is to provide and expand DNV GL capabilities in the performance evaluation of PV systems, engineering review and support, site visits, technology review and production estimates for utilities, banks, and developers of solar energy projects in Latin America. This position can based out of our Queretaro, MX or Mexico City office.

     

    Tasks May Include

    • The candidate will have responsibility for PV engineering deliverables and will have technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing and executing assignments. Will have business responsibility for providing project deliverables on time and on budget with high quality
    • Will also be responsible for multiple client interactions, including scoping, status reporting, and discussion and review of project deliverables
    • Specifically, candidates need to have an understanding of solar systems and/or components. The list may include but is not limited to: photovoltaic modules, racking or tracking systems, inverters, balance-of-system (AC and DC), transformers, switchgear, revenue metering, data acquisition systems (SCADA) and related codes and standards
    • Typical duties may include PV system design; design review; site assessment; system energy modeling; energy estimates; technology evaluation and risk assessment; EPC evaluation, selection, and monitoring; detailed system and component modeling; technical report writing; utility interconnection and transmission evaluation; site inspections; contract review of EPC, O&M, and performance guarantees; operations and maintenance review; financial modeling and review; regulatory compliance; construction monitoring; equipment commissioning and testing and travel to client and remote sites
    • Daily work will require interfacing with clients and peers across the company. The successful candidate will support other team members as requested. Engineers will lead projects and participate on project teams to complete work for clients
    • Project management skills are essential as the engineer will be responsible for performing various stages of project management on multiple solar projects and will be well versed in MS Office. The position will be responsible for organizing the technical due diligence process for projects, communicating and resolving technical issues with clients, and travelling to client offices and/or project sites within Mexico and Central America to support due diligence and/or business development. The candidate will be based on Queretaro, but will need to travel to Central America on an as-needed basis
    • Business Development: as part of the Solar Team, the Solar Engineer may be requested to support in tracking business opportunities, market intelligence, develop services according to Industry needs and develop and maintain the required network of contacts with focus on main regional solar PV markets
    • Research and Development: Propose and be involved in internal R&D Projects related to the solar business

    Position Qualifications

    Education and experience

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical discipline from an accredited university required
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the planning, design, construction and/or operations of PV systems preferred
    • Additional Electrical experience will be a plus

    Technical Qualifications

    • Understanding of Solar (photovoltaic) technology such as modules, inverters, and trackers/racks
    • Understanding of Solar power project design, energy modelling, and engineering 
    • Understanding of Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC), Operations & Maintenance (O&M), Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), and other contracts such as Interconnections
    • Exposure to Project budgets and financial models

    Fundamental Qualifications

    • Knowledge/experience/willingness with respect to all of the following:
    • Sound knowledge of Solar (photovoltaic) power generation, or similar
    • Project management skills are required
    • Good knowledge of the Mexico energy market
    • Good command of MS Office Suite
    • Able to establish and maintain good relations with clients and communicate complex technical concepts to those with non-technical backgrounds
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
    • Fluency in Spanish and English is mandatory
    • Proven HSE mindset
    • Self-driven and organized
