  • Local Unit & Position Description

    DNV GL Energy - KEMA Laboratories is seeking a Generator Operator to be responsible for operating and monitoring the performance of the generator plant in our Chalfont facility. This position is responsible for assuring that the conduct of operations activities are performed in a safe, efficient manner and in accordance with all DNV GL and industry standards while meeting the DNV GL requirements for the customer.


    Tasks May Include

    • Under the direction of the Head of Section, Engineering & Maintenance:
      • Operates in manual and semi-automatic modes rotating and stationary equipment
      • Monitors the performance of all equipment, gauges and charts associated with the generators and support equipment; records statistical data concerning plant operations; maintains, operates, repairs and replaces equipment as necessary; charts test results for trend analysis and maintains accurate records of analyses and test results; evaluates data and writes reports as required
      • Maintains and repairs malfunctions at the generator plant; repairs gauges, breakers, and other controls and equipment
      • Performs operational and condition based tests on equipment; evaluates procedures and results for accuracy and determines appropriate methods
      • Assures that plant operates within required standards
      • Trains and assists lesser skilled personnel in acceptable methods and procedures to assure accuracy of test results
      • Modifies or repairs instrumentation and control equipment including pneumatic actuators, recorders, meters and other monitoring equipment
      • Provides revisions and updates to the drawings and schematics of electrical and other systems in the plant
      • Monitors performance of electrical systems, circuits or equipment of the plant
    • Maintains current working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in operating the KEMA Laboratories Chalfont generator plant
    • Possesses working knowledge of electrical diagnostic instrumentation and maintenance tools and equipment
    • Other duties as assigned by the Head of Section, Engineering & Maintenance

    Position Qualifications


    • Associate's degree or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronics Engineering required
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in operating high voltage, utility scale electrical/mechanical equipment and large rotating equipment
    • Ability to understand electrical and mechanical technical drawings, specifications, data sheets, etc.
    • Ability to perform generator and support system control calculations
    • Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Access, VISIO, etc.
    • Strong verbal & written English language communications skills
    • We conduct pre-employment background and drug screening

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements


    This position requires an individual who can adapt to changing situations based on the quantity of work, the demands of customers and management. The position requires an individual who can devote the required amount of time to successfully accomplish the short and long term goals of the organization. 

    This position is a day shift (approximately 7 AM - 4 PM) for the majority of the year, however there is the potential to work 6 or more weeks per year on the evening shift (approximately 4 PM - Midnight). This position may be required to respond to emergency callout situations and be on site within 1 hour of being notified. This position may require overtime.

    • The employee must frequently push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.     • The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud
