    The Approval organization within Maritime Ship Classification consists of Approval Centre Norway (Høvik and Ålesund), Approval Centre Germany (Hamburg) and Approval Support Centre Poland (Gdynia). The total number of employees is ~380 with the two bigger units in Norway and Germany and a smaller unit in Poland. The main delivery from the Approval organization is approval, verification and certification services for different maritime related assets, mainly new buildings, systems and components.

    We are seeking a skilful, curious and agile engineer in our Pressure and Underwater Technology section located in Hamburg, Germany. You will be part of our team of 19 highly qualified engineers, who are responsible for assessing various types of pressure equipment against DNV GL Classification Rules, international/national regulations and standards (ASME, EN, DIN, AD-Merkblatt etc.). Our section is responsible for the classification and certification in the wide field of Underwater Technology. This comprise Naval Submarines, Submersibles for deep diving, research, experimental and touristic services as well as unmanned underwater vehicles. In addition, we are a Notified Body for the certification of diving apparatus and diving equipment. Further services are certification of Hyperbaric Chambers, deep diving activities, fuel cell systems beside others.


    We offer following tasks/ responsibilities

    • Drawing & Document approval and Design evaluation of Naval submarines, civil submersibles and pressure/underwater technology equipment
    • Close cooperation with national and international Naval customers. This includes workshops with our clients and the willingness to carry out surveys at clients on testing sites
    • Design assessment for compliance with the specific requirements
    • Plan approval of pressure equipment, Naval submarines and unmanned underwater vehicles, underwater technology systems and components
    • Contribute to maintain, improve and streamline our rules, work processes and section goals

    • Analyze new business opportunities, gather market intelligence and ensure competency development of colleagues
    • Prepare and give technical presentations to customers or at relevant industry events
    • Develop your external network to identify potential projects and your internal network to share knowledge and opportunities
    • Manage multiple projects to ensure they are completed within timescale and budget within own area of competency

    Position Qualifications

    We are looking for a colleague who has:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree preferably within mechanical/structural engineering
    • Preferably submariner with Naval submarine knowledge or the willingness to familiarize with Naval submarines business.
    • Experience within design/ fabrication/ testing of pressure and underwater technology equipment is beneficial. 
    • Ability to handle several projects in parallel 
    • Willingness to perform business trips to support our clients as well as our worldwide organization
    • Self-motivated and result-oriented
    • Ability to build trust, confidence and respect
    • Flexible, service-minded and with a positive attitude
    • Honest, open and committed to DNV GL's purpose, visions and values
    • Good communication skills, verbally and in writing. Company language is English.
