    DNV GL - Energy is seeking an Analytics Solution Developer to join our team. We are leveraging and scaling Big Data analytic capabilities to transform our global services across the energy industry. These capabilities include IoT, machine learning, data lake, and streaming analytics using Microsoft Azure and the Databricks / Spark ecosystem.

     

    As our Analytics Solution Developer, you will join a team that runs complex projects, transforming existing and developing new digital services and tools. We are looking for teammates who are passionate about building analytic solutions, applications and tools, and who can combine a good understanding of the system as a whole, with deep knowledge and experience with key components and tools in the chain. Working in our Portland, Maine office alongside approximately 15 team members, you will also work closely with team members throughout the United States and Europe.

    Tasks may include

    • Interface with internal and external clients to extract and define requirements, and offer solutions for business problems
    • Serve as a conduit between the business colleagues and development team creating the technical solution
    • Design, develop, operate and support solutions and applications deployed using Azure analytics tools (e.g. Azure SQL, Databricks / Spark, Data Factory, Data Lake Storage and Analytics, Data Warehouse, Cosmos DB, Azure Functions)
    • Develop, operate and document data ingest pipelines, web applications, visualization applications, data governance, data catalogues
    • Develop data transformations and analyze data using Python, Scala, C#, SQL, enhance and tune a Modern Data Warehouse and Data Lake in Microsoft Azure. Optimize code written for Spark
    • Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, implement scalable, tunable SaaS based solutions, and provide ongoing maintenance and support.

    Position Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, scientific, or engineering subject area and a strong scientific or engineering background required; Master’s degree preferred
    • 3+ years of relevant professional software development experience; demonstrable success as a Data Administrator as well as a software developer with fundamental programming skills in structured and open source tools
    • Proven experience engaging with technical and non-technical clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders to understand data challenges and propose solutions
    • Solid knowledge of application development on the Microsoft .NET framework
    • A good understanding of object-oriented design principles and patterns
    • A good understanding of SQL Server and database design
    • Experience with data transformation using, for example, regular expressions, XPath, JSONPath
    • Experience with one of the following areas will be an advantage:
      • Agile development methodology such as Scrum
      • Coding in languages such as Python, R, Scala
      • Advanced SQL knowledge with good understanding of query performance tuning
      • Developing and consuming RESTful API services
      • Processing large amounts of structured and unstructured data
      • Experience with Microsoft Azure
      • Experience with Spark ecosystem
      • Distributed system design
    • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Demonstrable ability to learn new technologies and continually upgrade and update one’s technical skillset
    • Ability to give constructive feedback to improve processes and quality
    • Ability to work with computers for extended periods of time on a daily basis required
