  • Local Unit & Position Description

    DNV GL – Energy's Sustainable Energy Use is seeking a K-12 Pilot Program Intern to join our Program Development and Implementation (PDI) team. This position is based out of our Grand Rapids, MI or Okemos, MI office.


    Tasks May Include

    • Benchmark building energy performance through EPA’s Portfolio Manager tool
    • Travel to Michigan High School and assist execution of Student Building Energy Audit pilot
    • Lead students through experimental energy measurement exercises
    • Lead students through building energy survey
    • Assist in classroom discussions of energy use and associated financial calculations
    • Phone communications with customers to check progress and assist with Green Revolving Fund program documentation.
    • Complete technical and financial analyses related to savings measurement and verification.
    • Perform site-specific engineering analysis and evaluation of energy efficiency projects and programs involving lighting, pumps, fans, compressed air systems, and other HVAC equipment. Provide guidance to customers on best practices for various energy savings technologies.
    • Identify opportunities for electrical energy or natural gas savings


    Position Qualifications


    • High School Degree plus working toward a STEM (science, technology, engineer, mathematics) degree at an accredited university.
    • An educational emphasis on energy and/or energy experience is strongly preferred
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel spreadsheet calculations and functions.
    • Individual should display a positive, team-oriented attitude to match our friendly work environment
    • Understanding of energy sector and role of utility rebates in energy conservation. Basic understanding of building systems and associated energy use preferred
    • Ability to conduct self as professional representative of organization.
    • Organization and project management skills.
    • Willingness and ability to work inconsistent schedule
    • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time (using your own reliable transportation) within the southern half of Michigan. Millage will be reimbursement
    • Willingness and ability to walk or stand for 3 hours at a time; to climb twelve-foot-tall ladder and to lift to 40 pounds
    • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills for customer communication. Strong technical written communications is required (email, documentation, reporting)
    • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
