Local Unit & Position Description

DNV GL – Energy is seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer. As part of the global Civil Engineering team, the Civil/Structural Engineer will be engaged in design review, construction observation, and analysis of structural failures of wind and solar energy systems. This position could be based in any of the following offices Oakland, CA; San Diego, CA, Seattle, WA; Austin, TX; Katy, TX; Medford, MA.

Tasks May Include 
  • Review of design drawings and calculations for wind and solar energy foundations structural support systems to support project financing (independent engineering) or project development (owner’s engineering)
  • Communicating complex structural engineering concepts and design review findings to financial lenders and other non-technical stakeholders, as responsible engineer in charge in support of due diligence design reviews
  • Evaluation of pre-market design concepts for wind and solar energy structural support systems
  • Growing existing and developing new civil engineering services for the renewable energy industry
  • Evaluation and root cause analyses of wind and solar energy system structural failures
  • Observation and documentation of wind and solar energy construction

Position Qualifications

Requirements
  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required
  • At least 6 years of structural engineering design experience of foundations and structural support systems required
  • Proficiency in analysis for fatigue in reinforced concrete (Eurocode, CEB FIP MC 2010, DNV OS C502) required
  • P.E. or P.Eng. license required
  • Proficiency in IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NBCC, EuroCode and/or other common structural design codes preferred
  • Proficiency in SAP, STAAD, and/or other common structural analysis programs required
  • Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB coding for structural engineering applications required
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time both domestic and international
    • Willingness and ability to use common construction personal protective equipment, walk over uneven terrain, and climb ladders during site visits
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
