Local Unit & Position Description

The mission of the Global Communications team is to support the Business Area Energy in achieving its strategic goals by implementing integrated communications strategies and programs. The function supports the business in building a solid reputation and brand amongst key stakeholders in the energy market and creates opportunities to increase revenue for the business. The integrated communications strategies include external communications and stakeholder management, events management, marketing communications, PR, media relations and internal communications. The Global Communications team has a global expertise center in the head office in Arnhem, The Netherlands, two support centers and four professional regional teams to support the business in the local markets. The Global Team works closely together with Group Communications in Norway.

Position Qualifications

The key purpose of the function is to support the DNV GL - Energy business in the Benelux by developing and implementing integrated communication campaigns, tactics and tools.


In addition, the candidate will act as interim global media relations manager for one year.


Main responsibilities for Benelux

  • Advisor to the business - acts as professional advisor to the business, reaching out pro-actively to business managers, experts and consultants. Works closely with the market area manager of the Benelux
  • Implementation of global content campaigns and development of local marketing communications campaigns – Turns complex business strategies into integrated marketing campaigns for the Benelux region that ensure target audiences understand our positioning using a range of digital marketing and communication techniques including:
    • Effective email, digital and social media campaigns (blogs, newsletters, Google AdWords campaigns, search, etc.)
    • Content marketing and native advertising (video, podcasts, papers, etc.)
    • Compelling service offers (workshops, seminars, webcasts)
    • Strategic case studies (web, video, PDF, etc.)
    • Optimized landing pages; call to action (i.e., downloads)
  • Content development – works with local experts to create fact sheets, case studies, blog posts, presentations, product/service overviews, and other collateral. Ability to translate complex technical issues in clear messages and language
  • Media relations – Drafts press releases and supports with media outreach activities in the Benelux region.
  • Social Media – lead social media activity for the region by ensuring a steady output of social media posts. Must be familiar with best practice for Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram
  • Event marketing – Supports the business, market area manager and regional communications manager to select the most appropriate events to attend to generate leads and securing speaking slots. Builds and maintains strong relationship with local event representatives to ensure that DNV GL is considered and obtains the best rates for attending events in the region


Temporary role as global media relations manager


Acts as Global Media Relation Manager for Business Area Energy for one year, during maternity leave of the current Global Media Relation Manager. In this temporary role, the candidate will take on two tasks:


a.     Maintain relations with key Energy trade media

b.     Develop press releases for global campaigns (about 5/year)


      Note: the global media relations function includes more tasks, which will be handled by other

                colleagues in the global team.


Essential knowledge, skills and experience

  • University degree level or equivalent work experience in corporate and/or marketing communications
  • Broad tactical marketing and communication experience covering messaging, PR, branding, field marketing, development of content and collateral, events for sales promotion, digital marketing and communication techniques, social media, measurement and operation, including preparation and tracking of budgets.
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on mentality
  • Excellent Dutch and English fluency (both written and spoken).
  • Ability to provide advice to the business in a professional manner
  • Creativity, ability to think outside of normal practices
  • Able to and sensitive to working in a multi-cultural environment handling different nationalities and working across borders
  • Highly adaptable and used to a high work volume and deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in managing external suppliers, internal stakeholders and working in international teams
  • Interest in innovation and technology, ability to learn quickly and develop credibility within relevant business areas; knowledge of the energy transition would be an advantage.
