Japan is experiencing strong growth in offshore wind, driven by the government initiative of multiple public tenders for offshore wind development zones. We at DNV GL are expanding our wind energy consulting practice in Japan and seeking two Offshore Wind Consultants.

DNV GLs wind energy service offerings in Japan include:

  • Wind resource monitoring campaign support and energy production assessment;
  • Wind turbine design support;
  • Wind turbine technology, contract, permit and wind farm design reviews;
  • EPC and O&M contracting support and optimization;
  • Site inspections during development, construction and operation;
  • Technical support on project acquisition and financing;
  • Project development support;
  • Commissioning and acceptance testing support; and
  • Operational plant assessment and optimisation.

 

Job Description:

As an Offshore Wind Consultant, you will be engaged primarily in customer relationship and Owner’s Engineering services for offshore wind projects which are urgently required by Japanese and international customers. Your duties may include but not limited to:

 

  • Customer interfacing and relationship management
  • Business development support in initiating and developing leads for offshore wind proposals and projects
  • Feasibility and front-end engineering addressing:
  • Support structures (WTG and OHVS)
  • Construction scheduling analyses
  • Offshore installation (WTG, structures, cable)
  • Engineering support pre-construction and through design, fabrication and construction for customers / main contractors:
  • Offshore Substructure Concept Design
  • Preparation of Design Basis and Specifications
  • Equipment review and specification
  • Design/Drawing review
  • Construction monitoring
  • Support structure (WTG and OHVS) detailed design
  • Due diligence for investors and lenders

 

In service of project delivery, you will be supported in Japan by the Country Manager and the regional renewable energy competence teams mainly from Singapore and Australia

 

You will be responsible for enhancing and strengthening the DNV GL position in the Japanese renewable consultancy markets through strategic and operational partnerships and organic growth.

Position Qualifications

Requirements:

 

You should ideally possess a Bachelor's degree in mathematical, mechanical, electrical or civil engineering with an emphasis on power systems, from an accredited university. Related work experience in renewables, power generation, power system design, or related field with a primarily electrical or civil engineering capacity will be an advantage but not mandatory. Possession of excellent commercial mindset, customer relationship, project management, communication and problem-solving skills and experience is desired.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Receive and respond to requests from Japanese and international customers for DNV GL support in the Japanese wind business;
  • Be supportive in initiating and developing leads for offshore wind proposals and projects, through visits to key existing customers and new contacts;
  • Take part in project team performing engineering analyses, due diligence reviews and owner’s engineering tasks for offshore wind projects;
  • Coordinate localization as required to facilitate non-Japanese teams in the Asia Pacific Region (this may involve performing some translation);
  • Manage local 3rd party engineering sub-consultants, as required, to augment regional technical teams; and
  • Work closely with business development staff and technical teams responsible for our other activities in Renewables Advisory in the region to ensure successful business development;

 

Fluency in spoken and written English and Japanese is mandatory requirement (TOEIC Score 600~) for Japanese Candidates, however these positions are also open to non-Japanese Candidates.
