Local Unit & Position Description

A segment leader for Offshore Wind will focus on global customer needs and drive extraordinary growth at a key time for this market with significant cost reductions taking place and increasing global activity. The Segment Leader will act as a thought leader ‘lighthouse’ within the area both externally and internally. That individual should be capable of penetrating customer organisations (offshore wind developers, offshore wind farms owners/operators, Turbine OEMs, financiers/lenders) at the highest levels, growing the business, seeking new ways to work with key customers and secure new work of an increasingly strategic and global nature.


The segment will cover both fixed and floating offshore wind projects with a global remit to ensure we successfully leverage our global expertise and capacity to provide value added services to our customers.


A segment leader position is a full-time position and normally has a duration of 2 years after which period the role can either be extended for a further agreed period, or the individual will move into another role in the organisation.


Main responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Communicate thought leadership to industry, policy makers and regulators etc. to improve DNV GL position and reputation as an industry leader and individually be recognised at the C-level in customer organisations as an offshore wind ‘lighthouse’
  • Achieve improved global market recognition to secure extraordinary growth in terms of order intake and revenue on a global basis
  • Deliver key note addresses at selected global and regional conferences to emphasise our leadership, and will be involved in conference content committees and chair key sessions at conferences
  • Responsibility for directing and positioning any communication material, ‘White’ papers, social media or other conventional outlets to promote and position DNV GL Energy in the market place
  • Segment Leaders will have access to Regional Managers, Business Unit Managers, Service Area Leaders, Innovation Managers, and Segment Leaders in other Business Areas to identify opportunities for co-operation across DNV GL
  • Ensure appropriate knowledge sharing across the Business i.e. manage and deliver internal dissemination of insights, market intelligence, technology developments and opportunities
  • Encourage and promote improvements in cross regional and cross departmental working to enhance the value added to Customers
  • Keep up to date with developments in offshore wind and identify services to promote and/or enhance
  • Participate in cross-regional commercial activities and business development like ‘first time’ bids and complex projects in agreement with the Service/Areas/Regions /Business Units.
  • Direct the establishment and operation of our Global Excellence Team for Offshore Wind
  • Position the Offshore Wind Business within DNVGL to be active in all regions of the world where Offshore Wind is being developed and promote the wider capabilities of the DNVGL group

Position Qualifications

As a successful candidate you shall fulfill below requirements:

  • Substantial experience, technical expertise and significant personal recognition and networks with Offshore Wind area (10 years experience expected)
  • Significant knowledge and understanding of the Offshore wind market, major players and future prospects/trends
  • Experience of developing and delivering corporate and strategic messages to Customers and building new long term relationships
  • Proven business development skills
  • Ability to influence at a strategic level
  • Proven ability to develop innovative ideas and bring them to market
  • Strong Interpersonal, relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Well-developed critical and analytical skills and excellent decision making ability
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Good presentation skills and experience presenting to large groups and clients at a senior level
