Local Unit & Position Description

DNV GL's - Oil and Gas North America is seeking a Group Lead to lead the Hydraulics and Flow Assurance team in the Pipeline Services Department. This team of engineering consultants specializes in hydraulic and flow assurance modeling including: Single phase steady state and transient analysis (Synergi Pipeline Simulator) and, to a lesser extent, multiphase thermal and hydraulic steady state and transient analysis. The Group Lead has the overall responsibility for the development, growth and performance of the activities performed within the Hydraulics and Flow Assurance team. The position is based in the Houston (Katy) office.


Tasks May Include

  • Manage the hydraulics and flow assurance group of 5 to 8 staff (Lead the group with respect to strategic priorities, market position and technical expertise)
  • Responsible for timely execution of the yearly processes such as performance management, annual plans, budgets, salary reviews and recruiting
  • Ensure long term sustainable operation with sound financial results as well as shorter term financial performance of the group
  • Plan, coordinate, support, follow-up and improve the activities of the group
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Secure projects to enhance DNV GL’s competence and recognition in the industry
  • Act as Project Manager for key flow assurance studies (including modeling of systems from reservoir face through well tubing, flowlines, risers, export pipelines, and single phase transmission lines)

Position Qualifications

What We're Seeking


  • Bachelor’s or higher in Engineering from an accredited university
  • Must have at least 8 years of experience in the pipeline industry with significant experience within the fields of pipeline hydraulics, flow assurance, transient simulations, etc.
  • Knowledge of the pipeline industry (operational experience is a plus)
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, codes, and standards
    • Extensive expertise in single and/or multiphase pipelines hydraulic simulation.
    • Steady state and transient hydraulic analyses using industry standard software, e.g., SPS, Pipeline Studio, AFT Impulse, OLGA, PIPEPHASE, and PIPESIM.
    • Specific expertise in surge analysis of liquid lines and designing of surge mitigation desired.
    • Must have analytical capabilities including experience with strategic and operational business planning and associated financial projections
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Excellent computer skills, as well as excellent oral/written presentation skill
  • Strong project management skills
  • Must be proactive and solution oriented
  • Passionate about innovation, curious, challenging status quo and embracing change
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to respect and understand cultural diversity and create a positive team spirit
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 20% of the year
  • Physical abilities necessary to perform regular functions of the job (ability to travel for business development and project needs)

  • Spanish or other languages is a plus
  • International experience is a plus
  • Useful Background: Operations Support, Engineering Design, System Design Review, Troubleshooting, Forensic Investigations, Online Pipeline Modelling, Simulation-based Leak Detection, Operator Training System, CFD simulation experience in flow assurance application, Offshore Pipeline Hydraulics
