Local Unit & Position Description

Brief Team and Position Summary:

The primary function of the Solar Energy Team Leader position is to manage a team of Solar Energy Analysts within the DNV GL North America Energy Group. The Solar Energy Team Leader is responsible for coordinating the proposal, completion, delivery and ongoing support of the work produced by the Team Leader’s team. The Solar Energy Team Leader is the direct contact point for clients and has strong technical knowledge for approving energy assessment and a strong understanding of solar technology. The Solar Energy Team Leader leads and participates in R&D projects and assists in planning the growth of the team. The Solar Energy Team Leader is also responsible for staff development and performance reviews for the Energy Analysts composing the Team Leader’s team.

 

DNV GL provides energy assessment services for solar PV systems for utilities, banks and developers of commercial and residential distributed (typically < 5 MW) rooftop and ground mount solar energy PV projects, across the United States and Canada.

 

Tasks May Include:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate team of Solar Energy Analysts to deliver projects within allocated time and budget;
  • Set project milestones for Solar Energy Analysts to follow and ensure milestones are met;
  • Assist staff in determining appropriate methodology and solutions for:
    • Long-term energy production assessments,
    • Preliminary and high-level energy production estimates,
    • Other assessments conducted by staff;
  • Perform technical checking and initial approval of all work product conducted by staff;
  • Analysis and development of meteorological files and assumptions for inclusion in PVsyst and other solar energy modeling tools. Includes evaluation and analysis of ground-based, satellite, and on-site data sources
  • Present checked and initially approved deliverables to Energy Group Head of Section;
  • Ensure an appropriate distribution of work load on staff;
  • Prepare or coordinate standard proposals and bids;
  • Support the preparation of special proposals and bids;
  • Serve as primary client contact;

 

 

 

Position Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering, atmospheric science, or mathematics field;
  • 5+ years experience in solar energy consulting, (additional education can be considered in lieu of experience);
  • 5+ years experience conducting bankable long-term solar energy production assessments, inclusive of all of the following activities, (additional education can be considered in lieu of experience):
    • Analysis and development of meteorological files and assumptions for inclusion in PVsyst and other solar energy modeling tools. Includes evaluation and analysis of ground-based, satellite, and on-site data sources
    • Forecasting long-term solar resource using measure-correlate-predict methods and other regression models
    • Creation of software input files based on documented or review of experimental data
    • Development of annual and long term solar energy assessments, using PVsyst and other modeling tools
    • Development of uncertainty analyses using statistical and pragmatic approaches to determine probabilistic energy production forecasts
    • Conduct energy reviews of portfolios of residential and commercial solar projects, and provide opinions regarding potential flaws in process or methodology
    • Analysis of energy production data from PV projects, including comparison of operating vs. modeled data, downtime analyses, and various other comparative analyses using quantitative data analysis techniques
    • Review and provide comments on resource assessments and energy estimates provided by other consultants
    • Writing technical reports suitable for project financing and communicating results to clients.
    • We conduct a pre-employment background and drug screen
