Local Unit & Position Description

​DNV GL - Energy's Sustainable Energy Use group is seeking an Energy Policy Analyst. This is an entry-level analytics position.  The successful candidate will learn the principles of SAS coding, sample design and pull, data management, and survey data manipulation and analysis.  Candidates with the right skill set will also learn econometric modeling and analysis. This position will be based out of our Madison, Wisconsin office.

 

Tasks May Include

  • Work on project-based teams in the delivery of program evaluations, research studies, and other project work related to energy efficiency and sustainability
  • Support senior consultants in the design, implementation and delivery of research and analytical projects
  • Review, analyze, and document the content and structure of data from a variety sources, including but not limited to energy efficiency program data, billing data, survey data, energy usage data, interval load data, demographic data and weather data, and identify data gaps.
  • Apply existing routines and develop new routines for data loading and cleaning.
  • Troubleshoot issues with data import and export routines and with the resulting datasets.
  • Design and develop processes to implement automated approaches for data handling and quality review tasks.
  • Revise data inputs derived from disparate data sources to use in analytical tools for energy program evaluation and market characterization studies, and prepare models for analysis
  • Develop expertise in energy efficiency data for specific programs and respond to data and research requests.
  • Conduct surveys, in-depth interviews, and field visits as directed by project managers to collect primary data used for process evaluations, market characterizations or evaluations of the impacts achieved by energy efficiency and DSM programs
  • Perform secondary research, including literature reviews, internet research, document reviews and database reviews
  • Assist in designing survey questionnaires, performing qualitative and quantitative data analysis in Microsoft Excel or SAS, and summarizing results
  • Preparing client deliverables including memos, reports, and presentations

Position Qualifications

Position Qualifications 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, econometrics, sociology or a related field plus one year of applied professional experience; or a Master's degree preferred
  • Statistics and/or Econometrics coursework with applied experience using real world data
  • Experience with one or more statistical programming languages
  • Willingness to become proficient at SAS statistical software, in addition to other languages
  • Demonstrated proficiency producing deliverables, including written reports and data products
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively to complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated strong quantitative skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially communicated technical subject matter to a non-technical audience
  • We conduct pre-employment background checks and drug screenings

Preferred skills (Not required)

  • Knowledge and experience in the energy utility industry
  • Experience in a consulting environment
  • Experience with energy efficiency and demand-side management (DSM) programs and/or program evaluation
  • Expertise in SAS, R, and/or Python preferred; also interested in candidates with expertise working with STATA, SQL or other command-line driven software package for organizing and analyzing large datasets
  • Leadership skills
