Local Unit & Position Description

The role will be primarily based at our office in Loughborough (UK). The role of the Group Leader is to provide management and leadership of fitness for service (FFS) team, The role will be primarily based at our office in Loughborough (UK), consists around 5 engineers/consultants, within the Integrity Management (IM) department of Technical Advisory (TA) business. The Group leader will be responsible for the day to day management of the FFS team, overseeing the projects led by the team members and be responsible for success of the group. Group Leader will report to Head of section (Integrity Management) and will support him to ensure optimal resourcing across the department and delivery of the Profit and Loss.  


The Group Leader will have broad range of technical skills associated with the fit for service assessments used in the Oil and gas industry. The candidate should have experience and ability to apply mechanical engineering principles in practice. It is required to have experience of working with International standards such as BS7910/AP 579, ASME VIII/PD 5500, UK Gas Industry Specifications and Regulations relating to pipework and detailed stress analysis using finite element methods. The candidate will provide a technical contribution to projects through undertaking fee earning activities liaising with customers and provision of technical governance as appropriate.

 

In addition to winning and delivering work in the FFS team, there is an ambition to grow the Integrity Management business within the global markets; therefore, the candidate should help in translating the vision into reality.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Delivery:  Ensure, with the Head of Integrity Management, that the portfolio of projects led by team members (typically £1m/annum) are delivered to time, budget and customer satisfaction.
  • Business Development: Lead the FFS team in identifying, generating, developing and closing qualified opportunities with customers and accounts and respond to customer requests in timely manner.
  • Customer Relationships: Develop and manage strong customer relationships to establish DNV GL as a ‘Trusted Technical Advisor’.
  • People: Work closely and collaboratively with peers (and specialists) to deliver the agreed Practice KPI’s (including but not limited to revenue, EBIT and utilisation targets). Supporting the recruitment, training and performance management of experienced and junior employees.
  • Resource Management: Providing management and leadership to the teams/employees. Work with the head of IM to provide effective Resource Management to achieve utilisation targets for self and for team.
  • Finance: Monthly financial reporting and forecasting for the FFS team, driving the Sales Order Book and estimation of annual budgets. Take commercial and administrative responsibility for consultancy contracts
  • Reporting: Produce effective internal and/or customer reports on a regular/ad hoc basis. Support to other technical specialists in providing technical governance in area of expertise as required
  • Project management: Management of overall team’s projects for successful delivery of agreed KPIs.

 

 

Position Qualifications

  • Proven technical experience operating in the oil and gas (preferable) or other relevant sector
  • Qualified in relevant engineering or scientific discipline – ideally Chartered Engineer status in Mechanical Engineering
  • Good communication in English (verbal and written) skills
  • Good team working and time management skills
  • Can demonstrate technical expertise and experience in areas applicable to the delivery team being managed
  • Can demonstrate the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects to time, budget and customer satisfaction
  • Can demonstrate credibility with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Be comfortable managing a team of people and working with other teams within the business to achieve results
  • Experienced in undertaking of FFS assessments and defect assessments using internationally recognized standards such as API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, BS 7910 or R6/R5
  • Strong experience in the stress analysis using FEA (Abaqus) and fatigue/fracture assessments (CrackWise or such)
  • Good understanding on project management. Good to have certifications such as PMP from PMI

Experience in the following areas:

  • Pipe stress analysis using CAESAR II, Pipeline integrity assessments using in line inspection data
  • First hand experience of working within an operators environment would be beneficial
