Local Unit & Position Description

The mission of the Energy Communications team is to support the Business Area Energy in achieving its strategic goals by developing and implementing integrated communications strategies and tactics. By implementing these strategies and tactics the team aims to build a solid reputation and brand amongst customers and key stakeholders in the energy market and create opportunities to increase revenue for the business. The integrated communications strategies and tactics include external communications and stakeholder management, digital marketing, PR and media relations, marketing communications and events management. The Energy Communications team has a global expertise center and five regional teams to support the business in the local markets. The Energy communications team works closely together with DNV GL Group Communications in Norway.

The key purpose of the Regional Communications Manager function is to support all business units in the region NEMEA (Northern Europe, the Middle East and Africa) by developing and implementing integrated marketing communication programs, deploying global campaigns locally and applying modern marketing and communication techniques. The function addresses the needs of the local Advisory business and the local needs of the Global Business Units Power TIC (KEMA), Renewables Certification and Sustainable Energy Use (SUS).


The position can be based in Bristol or alternatively in London.


Responsibilities – The Regional Communications Manager:


  • Has overall responsibility for building and maintaining DNV GL’s reputation in the NEMEA region.
  • Translates complex business strategies and tactics into integrated marketing and communications programs, takes care of the implementation and measures based on SMART targets.
  • Acts as professional advisor to the business, reaching out pro-actively to business managers, experts and consultants.
  • Leads the regional communications team and is member of the Energy Communications Leadership Team.
  • Has budget responsibility for the regional marketing and communications budget
  • Pro-actively builds relationships with local media, initiates and writes press releases and drives media campaigns.
  • Builds a thought leadership position for DNV GL by creating and maintaining effective content and materials, together with experts and consultants. 
  • Leads social media activity for the region to create higher brand awareness, thought leadership, improved relations and lead generation.
  • Ensures regional webpages are updated and relevant.
  • Supports the business with stakeholder relations and issue management.
  • Develops and executes an event program to support the business, both at regional and global level.
  • Plays an internal role in educating employees and managers about the brand, business wins, and market opportunities and developing brand ambassadors.

Position Qualifications

  • Educated at university degree level or equivalent work experience in corporate or marketing communications
  • Broad strategic and tactical marketing and communication experience covering messaging, PR, branding, field marketing, development of content, events, digital marketing techniques, social media, measurement and operation, including preparation and tracking of budgets.
  • Very good proven writing skills for writing press releases, articles and other publications.
  • Fluent in English both orally and in writing (at least CEFR C2 level)
  • Ability to provide advice to the business in a professional manner.
  • Creative mindset, ability to think outside of normal practices.
  • Able to work in and be sensitive to a multi-cultural environment, encompassing different nationalities and working across borders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Thinker and do-er, pro-active.
  • Experience in managing external suppliers and ensure high quality delivery within budget.
  • Problem solver and excellent communicator at all levels, able to advice senior management.
  • Organizational sensitivity.
  • Self-driven and able to work independently.
  • Interest in innovation and technology.
  • Ability to learn quickly and develop credibility within relevant business areas is important.
