Local Unit & Position Description

Currently DNV GL is looking for talented individual who will take charge over Power System Analysis department.

The Power System Analysis department is involved in different aspects of system planning and analysis such as: planning and designing transmission and distribution systems, balancing supply and demand, evaluating new technologies, integrating renewables into the network and anticipating and responding to new regulations. Especially the system-wide impact assessments required for integration of renewables becomes more important, knowing that the new renewable sources are typically intermittent and have very different electrical characteristics to conventional generating capacity 

Your role will be to lead a team of staff which will focus on the successful delivery of projects across the region within their area of expertise. Your primary responsibility will be to provide leadership to the team, coach, develop, retain and recruit staff, and ensure staff are motivated and engaged; and that the team is optimally utilized in meeting its operational targets and objectives.

Working closely with the Market Area Managers, Business Development Leaders and other Heads of Department you will ensure that business development and execution of projects are appropriately resourced with the right individuals, completed within the required timelines and budgets and to the required quality standards to meet customer requirements.

Your team could be located at different offices across the Region, so travel to those offices will be required.

Key Accountabilities:

Staff development:

  • Develop resourcing plans, to ensure work is completed within timelines, to the required technical standards and customer expectations.
  • Drive recruitment and staff retention across the department.
  • Develop competency and succession planning for critical roles and capabilities within department.
  • Identify and plan staff development using the DNV GL development model to ensure service to customers are not affected.
  • Performance management. Coaching and mentoring staff as appropriate.
  • Ensure team is motivated and are engaged.
  • Ensure team is utilized at the appropriate level given mix of responsibilities of the team (Business Development, innovation, delivery).
  • Encourage cross departmental collaboration.


  • You will act as a Project Sponsor on some projects.
  • Working closely with Market Area Managers and Business Development Leaders you may be involved in supporting BD activity as required.
  • Cooperate with other Heads of Department to ensure successful cross-department and cross-service line projects.
  • Approval of proposals in line with the Chart of Authority taking the appropriate bid/no bid decisions.
  • Approval of reports and technical work where appropriate.
  • Review monthly financial performance, and develop plans to meet and exceed budgets and targets, being prepared to make strategic decisions as appropriate. 
  • Responsible for tactical (3 years) and annual operating plan for the department in line with the longer-term objectives for the Service Area in the Region.
  • Coordinate pricing approach and decisions with Business Development Leader.
  • Lead the quarterly departmental Dynamic Forecasting process and support the Service Area process.
  • Monitor and improve underlying project profitability within the department.
  • Ensure Accounts Receivable and work in progress is controlled and meets corporate guidelines.
  • Responsible for QHSE in the Department.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and digitalization within the department, motivating and supporting staff as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other units inside and outside of the Region to ensure the highest value is provided to customers.

Technical/ Professional Expertise and Qualifications required:

  • Educated to at least degree level, preferably in Electrical Engineering or Power System Planning/Analysis
  • Substantial experience of working within the industry understanding the market drives and challenges. 
  • Significant leadership and line management experience of technical staff.
  • Exceptional commercial awareness, result orientation and proven business development ability within this sector.
  • Good command of Swedish is preferred.
